Coffee & Canvas Fundraiser

African Queens Dance Company will host its first fundraiser of the new year during Black History Month. Join us as we create unique mixed media masterpieces inspired by African/African-American cultures. Attendees will paint a silhouette with a fabric headdress during the 2-hour painting session while enjoying coffee (or tea) and music at Coffee with a Beat. Each attendee will take home a complete 12x12 canvas at the end of the evening. Please bring an apron or old t-shirt to wear to protect your clothes while painting. See below for more info and FAQs. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun!
Please note, seating is limited. Advanced ticket purchases are strongly encouraged!
No experience necessary; Men, women and children ages 12 and older are welcome.

FAQs
Where can I park?
There is street parking on Perkins Street and metered parking on Grand Avenue. After 6pm metered parking is free.
Can I bring my children?
Children age 12 and older with a ticket are welcome to the event. All attendees must have a ticket. Please, due to space limitations we kindly request that you do not bring children under 12 or non-ticketed guests.
Do I have to know how to paint? If I don't know how to paint will my artwork still come out okay?
You do not need any prior experience to participate. All artistic abilities are welcome. This is a great place to try out some new skills. The class is run in a no-pressure fun environment...even for those who proclaim they are 'artistically-challenged'! Come see for yourself. You're sure to have a great time...and yes your artwork will look okay!
Do I need to bring anything?
Yes! Please bring an apron or old t-shirt you don't mind getting paint on to put over your clothes.
Can I bring my own fabric or jewelry to use?
Yes, you may choose to bring scraps of fabric if you would like to use your own. If you choose to bring your own fabric, scraps that are 9in x 9in or larger work best. If you have an old earring that you haven't been able to find the mate to in years, you can repurpose it into your artwork, so feel free to bring it along. Large earrings work great!
What's included with my ticket?
You ticket includes all the required materials, instruction and a hot cup of coffee or tea. Pastries and additional espresso drinks may be purchased separately. Coffee with a Beat has a great menu and we encourage you to check them out!
Is my ticket tax deductible?
Partially. $15 of each ticket is tax deductible.
Is the venue wheel-chair accessible?
The painting area is wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately the restrooms are not wheelchair accessible at this time.
Can I make more than one painting during the session?
Yes, you may choose to purchase a painting add-on for $25 to complete an extra painting during the session. Please note that you will need to complete both paintings in the 2-hour session.
