Black History Month Dance Workshops

In celebration of Black History Month, African Queens Dance Company has partnered with Oakland and Berkeley Public Libraries to offer one-hour dance workshops throughout the month of February. The workshops are free and open to the public. All ages, genders, and skill levels are welcome. If you've been thinking about taking a class, this is a great way to check it out!

African Queens Dance Company will be performing at the City of San Leandro's
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Oratorical Festival. Each year 3rd-12th grade student contestants perform original or well-known essays, speeches, or poems in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s message of peace, tolerance, and social justice. African Queens Dance Company will be one of the featured entertainers for the event. The celebration also includes crafts for children and light refreshments.

African Queens Dance Company will be the featured entertainment at the 2014 Unity Bar Dinner in Sacramento this week. The Unity Bar Association of Sacramento will honor Sacramento’s diverse community and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Amendment passage with an evening of networking, dancing, dining and distinguished speakers, Windie O. Scott and Dr. Clarence B. Jones. Windie Scott, master of ceremonies for the evening, is a former State Bar of California Trustees Board Member and has served as President of the Sacramento County Bar, the Women Lawyers of Sacramento, and the Wiley Manuel Bar Association. Dr. Jones, who will serve as the keynote speaker for the evening, is a Scholar Writer in Residence at Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute at Stanford University and a
Visiting Professor at University of San Francisco. Please join us for this historic evening.

African Queens Dance Company is expanding! We would like all interested dancers ages 5-12 and their parents to join us on Friday, September 12th for an Open House. Prospective dancers will participate in an introductory dance class as parents attend a brief information session to learn more about the company.
